help haiti update.

January 15, 2010

The response to our Help Us Help Haiti campaign over its first 24 hours has been unbelievable. We would like to thank everyone for all of your questions, comments, and support.

Here is some important information to help YOU help US help HAITI (that’s a mouthful).

If you live in Toronto be sure to stop by Lileo (in the Distillery District). Beginning this weekend Rock Your Cause™ scarves and t-shirts will be on sale with proceeds being donated to Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders is working hard at setting up clinics and sending medical teams to Haiti to help with the aftershock of the catastrophe.

If you’re at school in London you’ll be pleased to hear that scarves can be purchased via Stacey Greenbaum and Melissa Baum beginning Monday.

If you’re at school in Montreal scarves can be purchased via Talia Mandowsky and Corey Moranis beginning Monday.

…and finally to answer a frequently asked question: A guaranteed 30%+ of the selling price of every Rock Your Cause™ item bought becomes a donated dollar. We put your money where it belongs. With that, please note that all proceeds (aside from Lileo sales) will be donated to either Oxfam Canada, Yele**, Doctors Without Borders, OR the Canadian Red Cross. When you purchase an item be sure to place a vote. Whichever organization has the most votes is where the Rock Your Cause™ donation will be made. Monetary donations will also be accepted via Paypal. Email info@rockyourcause.ca for more information.

To keep yourself updated be sure to visit our facebook group and fan page as well as our “Help Rock Your Cause™ Help Haiti Victims” Event. For information on how Canada is helping here is a great article by CBC.

Many Thanks,

Jordy and Mara

**IMPORTANT:

Rock Your Cause™ will no longer be considering the Yéle Haiti Foundation due to some recent negative acquisitions regarding the charity’s financial history. We trust that all money raised for Haiti this past week has gone to those in need, however we do not feel comfortable donating to an organization that made a reported $1.9 million dollars in revenue in 2008.

For more information on the Yéle Haiti debacle read this article published by NBC Washington and listen to Wyclef Jean’s personal response to the allegations here:
http://www.nbcwashington.com/around-town/events/Wyclef-Jeans-Yele-Hits-a-Bad-Note-81922317.html

If you have placed an order and would like to change your vote from Yéle Haiti please email info@rockyourcause.ca.
Consider the following Haiti Relief Funds: Oxfam Canada, Doctors without Borders, and the Canadian Red Cross.

January 14, 2010

Rock Your Cause™ was devastated to hear about the recent earthquake and its aftershock in Haiti.

We’re going to skip the small talk and instead link you to some educational articles, and more importantly a list of resources that will enable you to take action.

TAKE ACTION, HERE’S HOW:

Rock Your Cause: Proceeds from the purchase of a Rock Your Cause™ scarf before January 22, 2010 will be donated to a Haiti relief fund of your choice. Scarves are $23. Place all orders at info@rockyourcause.ca and please let us know where you would like your money to go. The organization with the most votes is where all of the funds will be donated (as long as it is reputable). When orders are placed we will send you an invoice with payment instructions.

Fashion Delivers: Consider sending your used lightweight clothing, accessories, and blankets to Fashion Delivers. Products will begin arriving in Haiti by early next week so please call 212-629-6700 or email carla@fashiondelivers.org for drop-off information… Talk about fashionable philanthropy.

Yéle: Singer Wyclef Jean’s Earthquate fund is donating money and sending volunteers. Visit Yele.org to donate money or text YELE to 501501 to donate $5 from your cell phone bill (U.S Only).

Care: To donate to the Haiti relief fund effort, go to Care.org or call 1-800-521-CARE. Money will go toward food, water and sanitation, shelter and emergency health response
